Happy Reading: Book Recommendation #1

My husband and I are avid readers, with a passion for books on a wide range of topics, including leadership, marriage, determination, and more. I love sharing what I’m reading to encourage others to dive into a great book!

Audiobook:

I recently finished listening to The Charismatic Leader by John C. Maxwell. What I loved most about the book was its emphasis on becoming genuinely interested in other people. As humans, we are naturally inclined to put our own wants and needs first. This book offers practical strategies to help overcome that instinct and build more meaningful connections in everyday life.

Over the years, I’ve had to learn how to be a good listener myself. I’ll never forget when I was eighteen, and my best friend told me I was a horrible listener. She was frustrated with my monologues. Ouch! It hurt, but I’m so thankful for that moment. It made me realize I needed to become more intentional about focusing on others before myself.

Now, as I near forty, I like to think I’ve come a long way. I know I’m not perfect, but that’s not the goal. My measure of success is simply trying my best every day.

Physical Book:

I also recently finished reading The Turquoise Table by Kristin Schell, and I absolutely loved it! In my effort to be more hospitable, I’ve read several books on the topic. In this one, Kristin shares her journey of placing a turquoise picnic table in her front yard. The stories she tells are authentic and heartfelt. While I haven’t yet invested in a turquoise table, I did purchase two rocking chairs for my front porch after reading the book. Within the first day, I had a neighbor stop by to chat. It was lovely! She opened up about her life and even shared some prayer requests. I highly recommend this book!

I hope you find a moment this weekend to pick up a good book and discover something new!

Happy Reading,

Amy
